“I NEED TO borrow your tablet again,” Logan says, not even bothering to knock this time. It’s barely a full day after debate’s State tournament and he’s already pestering me. He’s such a pain in off-season.

“Why?” I ask, looking up from my tablet. I’m working on some of the music cards Joey had put together. “So you can post more bad poems with the admin account?”

“They’re not bad!” He looks genuinely offended. “The Romeo and Juliet one has almost three hundred ups.”

“Because you made it look like I endorsed it.”

“Because you’re not doing any kind of marketing at all.”

“Because it’s an awful app and doesn’t deserve attention.” I wave my tablet at him. “Study Buddy is the important one. And I’m using my tablet right now.”

“Just five minutes.”

“Where’s your school tablet?”

“If I knew, would I need yours?”

I sigh, holding my tablet out to him. “Five minutes.” He never keeps his nearby. I’m the only one who really uses mine. It’s a total waste of school resources. They’d be better off buying me the new version and handing him a notebook.

“I’ll be done in three.”

He starts flipping around, presumably to the school’s blackboard app to get some homework assignment or something. “You have a lot of tickets in here for Requite.”

“Stay out of my admin!” I grab at the tablet, but he turns away, putting his whole back between us.

“Almost …” He trails off, clicking around.

“If I see another one of your campy poems, I’m deleting it,” I say, trying to reach past him but not actually bothering to get off my bed.

“Trust me, I’m way beyond poems at this point.” He holds the tablet back at me. “See, not even close to three minutes.”

“What did you do?” I start flipping through my apps, trying to figure out what he actually could have done. He didn’t have time to cancel my account. He really didn’t have time to delete anything.

The official Requite Hub is clear of all bubbles and messages.

If he did anything, he deleted all evidence of it.

“If you can figure out what I did, nerdling, I’ll admit it.” He smiles at me, taunting. “But I doubt you even know it was possible.”

“If you ruined anything, I’ll kill you.”

“If you were actually as good at computers as you think you are, I wouldn’t be able to ruin anything.” He rests against the edge of my dresser. Probably not sure where to put himself while I’m on the bed, where he usually perches. “So, you and this Nate guy …”

I look up from my tablet, still not able to see what he did. “I do not want to talk about that right now.”

“Did he break your heart, because I can kill him if he broke your heart.”

“Logan.”

“His knees, then. I can break his knees?”

“It’s not his fault.”

He just stares at me, arms crossed in front of him.

“Okay, it’s entirely his fault and he’s a jerk. But my feelings are my problem, not his.”

“That’s enough to go egg his house. I’m sure I can get help.
